There weren’t any candles, flowers or an expensive restaurant when Mario proposed to Sonya after six years together. Instead, it was 2am and they had just finished packing for a vacation to Bermuda. “It was just us in our jammies. And it was perfect,” says the bride.
The couple had a Sikh wedding ceremony in Toronto on Friday May 18, 2012. On May 20th, they had a Greek ceremony at St. John’s Church in Toronto, before 250 guests. The couple didn’t pick out any wedding theme or colours, instead, they just picked things they liked and felt represented their personal style.
The reception was full of love and laughter and the dances lasted long into the night. The couple and their guests participated in several cultural dances, including a bread dance and a traditional Macedonian pig dance. They agree that one of the funniest moments was watching the groomsmen “pelvic-thrust their way through”.
The Bride loved her bouquet, lily of the valley is her favourite flower and its notoriously finicky and difficult to get. She says she’s not usually a fan of cake toppers but ordered the bride and groom bumblebees that float over their pale pink wedding cake as a surprise to Mario. They both ended up loving them.
